Nobody in the harbor area shops for pallets in the abstract. There is a container involved, and the container is either being emptied or being filled. That single fact decides almost everything about the order: the size, the treatment, how fast the truck has to arrive and what happens to the wood that is already on your floor.
So before comparing suppliers of pallets for sale in Long Beach, settle which side of the container you are on. The two orders below look similar on a purchase order and behave completely differently on the dock.
Two Buyers, Two Pallet Orders
Picture a container freight station on Avalon Boulevard in Wilmington. A floor-loaded box has been dropped in the yard, the cartons inside were never palletized, and the crew needs a platform under every stack before anything can move to the racks or onto an outbound trailer. The pallet does not have to be special. It has to be sound, standard and on the ground today, because the clock on that container is already running.
Now picture a freight forwarder staging an export load for a sailing out of Pier T at the Port of Long Beach. The cargo is ready, the booking is confirmed, and the only thing between the shipper and a clean departure is whether every piece of wood in that container will pass inspection at the destination port. This buyer does not care about speed first. This buyer cares about the stamp.
Import Side: Re-Palletizing What Comes Off the Ship
What the Pallet Has to Do
Devanning is a volume job. The pallet underneath has to take a forklift or a pallet jack from any side, hold a mixed stack of cartons without flexing, and match whatever racking or trailer the goods are headed for next. In practice that means our standard 48x40 block pallets: nine blocks in a 3x3 pattern, true 4-way entry, a static rating of 2,500 to 4,600 lbs and a dynamic safe working limit of about 2,500 lbs while the load is moving. Two of them sit side by side in a 53-foot trailer, which is why the transload facilities along Del Amo Boulevard in Carson rarely ask for anything else.
Heat treatment is not needed on this side; domestic pallets do not require it. Every pallet gets checked in our yard before it goes on the truck, so the order can be as plain as a quantity and a delivery window.
What to Do With the Pallets That Came In
Import cargo often arrives on wood that is the wrong size for a US warehouse, stamped for a country you are not shipping to, or simply beaten up from the voyage. It piles up behind the building. That pile is worth a phone call: we buy surplus pallets in all conditions, including foreign stamped stock, oversized and non-standard sizes. Reusable pallets are paid for on the spot; damaged or mixed loads are removed rather than paid for. The one thing we cannot take is a pallet contaminated with hazardous material.
Pickup is scheduled within 24 to 48 hours, or same day when the yard is full, and our crew handles the loading. If you are already receiving an order from us, the surplus can go on the truck that just delivered it. The two legs are quoted separately, but they happen on one visit, which is the arrangement we described in delivery and pickup on one truck.
Export Side: What Customs at the Other End Will Check
The HT Stamp and Everything Around It
If the container is leaving the United States on wood pallets, assume the destination enforces ISPM-15 and specify heat treated ISPM-15 pallets. The kiln brings the wood core to 56 degrees Celsius (132.8 Fahrenheit) and holds it there for 30 continuous minutes or longer; the pallet is then marked with the IPPC stamp, which has to be legible on two opposing faces. We covered the kiln process and each element of the mark in how heat treatment works and what the stamp shows, so here is only the part that gets export loads rejected at the harbor:
- The pallet is not the whole shipment. Untreated dunnage, blocking or bracing added inside a container can get the entire load flagged, even when every pallet is stamped.
- A worn stamp is treated as no stamp. Painted over, rubbed off or unreadable marks may be ruled non-compliant on arrival.
- A repaired pallet loses its stamp. If a board has been replaced with untreated wood, the mark no longer counts until the pallet is re-treated and re-stamped.
- Plastic and plywood are exempt. Plastic pallets and plywood-only crates do not fall under ISPM-15 at all.
When the Receiver Is in Europe
A European customer may ask for the 800x1200mm footprint rather than a 48x40, because their racking, trucks and exchange pool are built around it. We stock Euro pallets carrying the EPAL and EUR marks; every one is heat treated and ISPM-15 stamped by default, so nothing else has to be certified before the box is sealed.
| Import side | Export side | |
|---|---|---|
| What matters most | Sound 48x40, on the ground fast | Legible HT stamp, treated dunnage |
| Treatment | Not required | ISPM-15 heat treated, or plastic |
| Footprint | 48x40 for US racking and trailers | 48x40 HT, or EPAL 800x1200 for Europe |
| The other leg | Foreign pallets bought or removed | Usually none; order to the booking |
Delivery Timing From the Yard to the Harbor
From 1160 E 78th Street, below Vernon on the Florence side of South LA, the I-710 runs to the port complex without a detour. Our trucks are on it daily, so most harbor orders arrive within hours of dispatch: Wilmington and Carson first, then the terminals and Signal Hill.
That proximity matters more on the import side than anywhere else we deliver. A devanning crew standing around a floor-loaded container is idle time you pay for by the hour, and a supplier two counties away cannot fix it the same day. We can. Same-day and rush delivery are available and may carry a small premium; same-week delivery is the norm without one. Larger orders come on a flatbed, so mention it if your yard is tight on turning room.
Export orders run on a different clock. The booking sets the date, the pallets should be on site well before cargo is staged, and there is no reason to pay for a rush. Tell us the sailing and we will schedule against it.
Ordering by the Container: Quantity, Cadence and the Free-Delivery Line
We quote rather than publish prices, and the quote moves with volume: retail below 50 pallets, wholesale from 100, high-volume from 500. The line that matters most for a harbor operation is 100, because from that quantity we deliver at no charge to any address we serve, the port included. Below it, a small delivery charge applies, set by the distance from the yard.
A CFS that breaks down several boxes a week rarely benefits from ordering container by container. Consolidating into a scheduled weekly or biweekly drop clears the 100 line almost every time, and a standing schedule earns a better rate than one-off orders. Quotes come back as one delivered figure, with nothing added later, in English or Spanish.
Exporters ordering to a booking can be more surgical. Count the pallets per container, add treated dunnage if the load needs it, and place the order with enough lead time that the stamped stock is sitting in your staging lane before the cargo is. The broader export process, from booking through gate-in, is laid out in shipping pallets out of the Port of LA.
One container being emptied, one being filled. Say which when you ask about pallets for sale in Long Beach, and the rest of the order writes itself.
Frequently Asked Questions About Pallets for Sale in Long Beach
Do you deliver pallets to Wilmington, Carson and the port terminals?
Yes. Wilmington, Carson and San Pedro are on our regular I-710 run, and harbor-area orders normally arrive within hours of leaving the yard.
Do I need heat treated pallets for an export container out of Long Beach?
If the pallet is wood and the container is leaving the country, assume yes. The pallet must carry the IPPC stamp with the HT code, and any wood dunnage or bracing in the container must be treated too.
Will you take the pallets that came in on our import containers?
Yes. We buy surplus pallets in all conditions, including foreign stamped stock, and can load them on the same visit that delivers your order. Reusable pallets are paid on the spot; damaged or mixed stock is removed.
What order size gets free delivery to Long Beach?
One hundred. From 100 pallets up we deliver at no charge to any address we serve, the harbor included. Below that there is a small delivery charge that depends on the distance from the yard.
